Three workers injured in construction site fall

A construction worker was critically injured when he and two others fell from a concrete wall at the Fontainebleau Resorts construction site Thursday morning near Paradise Road and Sahara Avenue.

The accident occurred about 9:30 a.m. when the men fell from the 30-foot high wall, said Clark County Fire Department spokesman Scott Allison.

Two of the men fell onto the ground, while a third fell into a 10-foot deep hole, Allison said.

Although all three were wearing safety harnesses, Allison said the harness on the man who fell into the hole failed.

Allison said there was rebar inside the hole but the worker miraculously wasn't impaled on it.

"How he missed it, I don't know," Allison said.

The workers were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. Two had minor injuries, while the worker who fell into the hole was in critical condition.

"It has become almost a regular thing to see injuries at these construction sites," Allison said.

In February, two men were killed when they fell from a concrete wall at the CityCenter project on Las Vegas Boulevard near Harmon Avenue.

The Fontainebleau Resorts project is a planned 4,000-room resort and casino slated to open in 2008.
