Tiesto top earner among star DJs
August 14, 2012 - 1:05 am
Superstar DJs are earning many millions of dollars by playing in front of concert-size crowds at Strip nightclubs and pool parties.
Forbes magazine has published estimates of the world's highest-paid DJs. Keep in mind, star DJs play not just Vegas but also internationally.
1. Tiesto earned $22 million during the past year. This includes his contract at the Wynn-Encore clubs XS, Surrender, Encore Beach Club and Tryst. Forbes cites Pollstar's nightly Tiesto gross as $250,000.
2. Wynn-Encore's Skrillex earned $15 million.
3. The trio Swedish House Mafia earned $14 million. Individually, that trio (Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso) DJ at times at Wynn-Encore.
4. Wynn-Encore's David Guetta earned $13.5 million. He was at MGM's Wet Republic last year, too.
5. Wynn-Encore's Steve Aoki earned $12 million.
6. Wynn-Encore's Deadmau5 earned $11.5 million.
7. Hard Rock Hotel's DJ Pauly D earned $11 million.
8. Kaskade earned $10 million, partly for his residency at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas' Marquee nightclub and dayclub.
9. Wynn-Encore's Afrojack earned $9 million.
10. Wynn-Encore's Avicii earned $7 million.
AXL ROSE RETURNS TO HARD ROCK
Axl Rose takes a Guns N' Roses band to Hard Rock Hotel for a 12-date residency in the Joint.
Axl and his original band mates are long split, so the shows will not include Slash et al.
Because Axl's first show is on Halloween, this Axl band should consider wearing masks bearing the likenesses of ex-Guns players Slash, Izzy, Duff, Steven Adler or Matt Sorum.
Tickets ($45-$115) go on sale 10 a.m. Friday for shows on Oct. 31-Nov. 24.
By the way, Celine Dion's top tickets fetch twice as much as Axl's. She just added 29 shows at Caesars Palace. Her new dates are Dec. 28-March 16. Tickets ($55-$250) go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
VEGAS NATIVE'S NEW TV SHOW
Las Vegas native Charisma Carpenter - Cordelia from "Angel" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" - will host a 2013 TV show called "I Survived Evil" on Investigation Discovery.
The show will feature people who survived attacks - as Carpenter herself once did.
After Carpenter went to Bishop Gorman High, she moved to Mexico and then to San Diego, where she won a spot as a Chargers cheerleader.
In 1991, she went swimming near San Diego with two male friends. They were held at gunpoint by Henry Hubbard Jr., a masked serial rapist of women and underage girls.
As People magazine reported at the time, Carpenter refused Hubbard's order to tie up both of her friends. He put a gun to her head. The men struggled against Hubbard and were shot. Hubbard, shot in the hand, fled.
Hubbard had been a celebrated cop who eluded his departments' previous traps. Stupidly, he left behind his cop flashlight, engraved with his name. Carpenter, then 22, handed it over as evidence, and he went to prison.
In an interview with TVLine.com, Carpenter says she wants to sit down with Hubbard on her show and ask: "What happened to you? Tell me your cautionary tale."
WEIRD JERRY SANDUSKY TRIVIA
Comedian Greg Proops told this wild true story on his podcast, "The Smartest Man in the World." Weeks ago, he called Netflix for technical support and had this chat with a rep.
The Netflix guy told Proops, "Man, you're one of the better celebrities I've talked to this week. Jerry Sandusky called to cancel his Netflix subscription.'"
Proops wondered, "What about Jerry Sandusky's family? They don't want to watch Netflix?"
Proops joked of Sandusky, "Of course, all he was renting was 'Lord of the Flies.' "
