TV station’s ad sellers sorry election is over
How important was Nevada's swing state status? No TV station in the United States cashed in more from political ads in 2012 than KSNV-TV, Channel 3, according to ad campaign tracking experts.
Bloomberg Business Week is reporting Kantar Media's Campaign Media Analysis Group determined the NBC affiliate has broadcast 20,282 spots, nearly 2,000 a month.
That's 80 percent of the station's ads, according to KSNV general manager Lisa Howfield.
In the first three weeks of October, Democrats ran 4,551 of the spots compared with 3,506 by Republicans. That was attributed to data reported by Wesleyan Media Project of Wesleyan University.
Only the Denver market aired more in that October period.
ROOT: ROMNEY LANDSLIDE
Las Vegas oddsmaker Wayne Allyn Root, the vice presidential candidate for the Libertarian Party in 2008, had been predicting a Mitt Romney landslide over President Barack Obama since May.
During an appearance this week on Joy Behar's "Say Anything" show on Current TV, Root said "a white Christian surge" would be the difference.
When Behar bet him $1,000 that Obama would win, Democratic strategist Robert Zimmerman chimed in that he wanted the same bet. The $2,000 will go to a fund for victims of Superstorm Sandy.
Root accepted their challenge. He had predicted a Romney victory by 100 to 120 electoral votes.
A FIRST LADY FIRST
The KKLZ morning show at FM 96.3, featuring Mike O'Brian, Jim Tofte and Carla Rea, landed an Election Day interview with first lady Michelle Obama.
Rea may have scored a first: The first reporter to get a first lady to bite on a question about male strippers.
During the five-minute interview, Rea invited the first lady and second lady Jill Biden to join her on a girls night out, including a stop to see the Chippendales, who headline at the Rio.
"I thought you were going to say we go and we talk to some military families," the first lady said.
"Maybe when we are out here visiting a base or working with a family we can drop by.
"You think we can get good seats, huh?"

Kate Whiteley has been promoted to vice president at PR giant Kirvin Doak Communications. She marked her 10th year with the company in October. ...
Entertainment reporter Alicia Jacobs returns to KSNV with a freelance piece on Saturday about The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. She left the station in April 2011 after entertainment coverage was de-emphasized. Her new role with the station is incorporated in the TLC reality show she has been shooting with Las Vegas socialites since August. It premieres Dec. 9.
Starting this week, I'll be joining KTNV-TV, Channel 13, "Morning Blend" co-hosts Dao Vu and Shawn Tempesta every Thursday with an entertainment report.
