Utah woman pleads guilty to crashing car into crowd

A Utah woman who fled the scene of an accident after she hit eight people in North Las Vegas in August pleaded guilty in court Tuesday.

Nyakeuth Tear, 18, entered her plea before Clark County District Court Judge James Bixler.

The eight people were hit as they were leaving a three-hour Spanish evangelical service and were returning to their parked cars in front of Iglesia de Cristo, in the 1900 block of Losee Road near Lake Mead Boulevard and Interstate 15.

The crash was captured by an auto repair shop’s surveillance camera. It shows Tear getting out of the car, examining the situation and leaving the scene. No one was killed, but all eight victims were taken to the hospital, according to reports at the time. Seven were released by the next day and one had critical injuries, reports stated.

Tear’s sentencing is scheduled for April 15. She could get probation or up to 15 years in prison.
