Victims of crash were students

Two girls killed Tuesday in an accident on Interstate 15 near Mesquite were Moapa Valley High School seniors from Logandale, according to the school's Web site.

Lysha Marshall, 17, and Heather Wallace, 16, were with two other girls in a Ford Expedition traveling north when the vehicle veered into the median and overturned at 10:20 a.m., the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

Trooper Kevin Honea said evidence at the scene indicated that the tread on one of the tires had separated.

Moapa Valley student Carolyn Becker suffered critical injuries in the accident and is hospitalized. Another student, Ashley Potter, suffered minor injuries.

The school held a candlelight vigil for the students on Tuesday.

Honea said evidence at the scene indicates that some of the passengers might not have been wearing seat belts.
