Want to party in ‘Pawn Stars’ shop?

It didn't take long for the owners of Gold & Silver Pawn, home of the hit TV reality show "Pawn Stars," to recognize a golden opportunity.

Rick Harrison confirmed he's been renting out the space for parties.

"Why not?" he said. "We're always looking for more revenue streams. Plus, it brings more business downtown."

He said his general manager came up with the idea.

Who wouldn't want to party among pawned Olympic medals, Super Bowl rings, World War II relics and "Chumlee" T-shirts?

"I think it's genius," said Harrison.

USC'S WINGMAN

If the University of Southern California wins the national championship this season, coach Lane Kiffin may owe a huge assist to a Las Vegas car dealer.

When Kiffin needed help in landing prized Penn State running back Silas Redd, who did he call?

First he called Redd's high school coach to serve as an intermediary.

Then he called USC supporter Ted Jones at Fletcher Jones Mercedes. Kiffin didn't need a car; he needed a jet to fly to Redd's hometown.

Kiffin, in an interview with ESPN's Colin Cowherd, said Jones "sent his big ol' Mercedes jet which was in Vegas to pick us up in L.A. We got done with the Pac-12 meetings. We flew to White Plains, N.Y. It was myself, my dad, our running backs coach, our O-line coach."

Penn State players were allowed to transfer in the wake of heavy sanctions levied against the program, part of the fallout from the Jerry Sandusky-Joe Paterno scandal.

THE SCENE AND HEARD

"Gigolos," the Showtime reality show set in Las Vegas, starts airing Aug. 30 and it will be as subtle as a sledgehammer. "It's gonna make 'Fifty Shades of Grey' look like a coloring book," said Marklen Kennedy, one of the producers. ...

Those references to sweet tea and Madonna in Friday's Faith Hill-Tanya Tucker item were inadvertently included because of a computer glitch.

THE PUNCH LINE

"(New York City) Mayor (Michael) Bloomberg is saying now that he has banned large sodas in New York City, his next target is going to be alcohol. Once that's out of the way he'll start his crusade against the laughter of children." - Conan O'Brien
