Watch the police video and ask: Where are the protesters?
People are marching in the streets, shouting slogans and carrying signs. All over an Arizona law that might result in people being asked whether they are in the country legally. There is outrage. Umbrage is being taken.
But there is nary a peep over something that happens 100 to 150 times a day in this country. Doors are smashed and homes are invaded by uniformed, badge-carrying, gun-bearing, militarized SWAT teams.
Radley Balko at Reason magazine first wrote about one such raid in Missouri in February. The police shot to death one of the family's dogs and wounded another in the presence of a 7-year-old. A misdemeanor amount of marijuana was found, Balko wrote, and the parents were charged with child endangerment.
An obviously outraged Balko wrote: "So smoking pot = 'child endangerment.' Storming a home with guns, then firing bullets into the family pets as a child looks on = necessary police procedures to ensure everyone's safety."
Now the Reason writer has posted a police video of the raid. Warning the scenes and language are graphic.
Where are the protesters screaming about police tactics? Where is the perspective? Where is the common sense?
