Water district’s move to four-day workweek OK’d

The valley's largest water utility will shift to a four-day workweek July 1, saving an estimated $200,000 a year in fuel and energy costs.

Clark County commissioners gave the go-ahead Tuesday for the Las Vegas Valley Water District's employees to work four 10-hour days instead of five eight-hour days.

About 95 percent of the department's 1,500 workers are expected to make the switch.

"The district has taken a very hard look at our operations to cut costs wherever we can," district spokesman Bronson Mack said.

Also, workers commuting from home one day less per week will save $400,000 in gasoline yearly and reduce the carbon footprint by 1,000 metric tons, Mack said.
