WEEK IN REVIEW: Reporters’ notebook

William Robinson II got plenty of chuckles as he made his case Monday at a candidate forum for the seven applicants in Assembly District 17. The 34-year-old — and youngest of the bunch — joked that he still has “10 or 12 good years” left.
It didn’t stop there.
Later in the forum, Robinson drew more laughter as he thought carefully when asked about medical marijuana.
“There is a lot of good in marijuana if it’s used correctly,” he finally said.
His comedy stylings didn’t quite win him the job. Instead, Clark County commissioners went with one of Robinson’s elders, 45-year-old Tyrone Thompson.
But Robinson can always seek an Assembly seat in the future. By his own count, he should get five or six more chances.

OVERHEARD ON THE SCANNER: “We had one very irate driver. She became very rude and insultful and threw several F-bombs.”
World War II bomber pilot Jack Schofield, who turns 90 on Thursday, offered some advice to graduates at Henderson’s Veterans Court: “As you get older, there are three things you need to know. One thing you do in time you can’t remember. The other two I can’t remember.”
Schofield has vivid memories, though, of flying “the Hump” in the China-Burma-India campaign. As he was leaving India for Kunming, China, he made a high-speed, low pass over the historic, “crown of palaces” in Agra.
“I think I’m the only one in the world to buzz the Taj Mahal in a B-25,” he confessed.
