What’s shakin’? See the latest quakes in the U.S

It happens every time the earth trembles. News reports of an earthquake somewhere in the United States turn attention to the cable channels and Internet. Mobile phone systems are brought to their knees, as people reach out to loved ones with live accounts and words of comfort, letting folks know they're okay.

When the quake hits a populated area, like today's 5.4 temblor in Southern California, there is inevitably video showing the quake as it happened. News organizations scramble to find damage or injuries and they have eye-witness reports in 15 minutes or less. Aside from the regular news sites offering coverage of the event, I always turn to the U.S. Geological Survey site to track the recent quakes. There's a lot of information about the seismic activity and tips for those in the quake zone.
