Woman dead, man injured in shooting at apartment
A 59-year-old man shot and killed his girlfriend’s mother before turning his gun on himself Thursday night at an apartment complex near Tropicana Avenue and Maryland Parkway.
Las Vegas police Lt. Lew Roberts said the girlfriend called police about 5:30 p.m. from her apartment at 1401 E. Reno Avenue. She claimed that her boyfriend had shot her mother and then shot himself.
Officers arrived to find the mother, in her late 70s or early 80s, dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.
The boyfriend, whose name was not released, was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the face.
He is in critical condition but is expected to live, Roberts said.
Police are interviewing the girlfriend and have not yet determined a motive in the slaying.�
