Woman dies, others hurt in crash at highway interchange near Boulder City

A 79-year-old woman died Saturday morning after an SUV ran a stop sign and struck the vehicle she was a passenger in at a highway interchange near Boulder City, the Nevada Highway Patrol said. Trooper Chelita Rojas said the collision occurred about 6:52 a.m. near the U.S. Highway 93 and U.S. Highway 95 interchange. The deceased woman's name was not released by authorities.

Rojas said a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling southbound on U.S. 93 at the exit ramp for southbound U.S. 95 while a Cadillac Escalade was headed northbound on U.S. 95 approaching the U.S. 93 interchange.

Rojas said the driver of the Tahoe failed to stop at a stop sign, and struck the right side of the Escalade at the interchange. The woman, who was a passenger in the Escalade, was pronounced dead at the scene, Rojas said.

Several other passengers from both vehicles were taken to area hospitals, but none of their injuries were life threatening, Rojas said.

Rojas said the probe is ongoing. Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be a factor in the collision.
