Mayor doesn’t deserve to be labeled a ‘racist’

To the editor:
In response to the people who are calling Mayor Oscar Goodman a racist for his reaction to the president's comments about Las Vegas:
The mayor has every right to tell the truth, and he doesn't deserve to be called a racist for doing so. I am so tired of the "If you don't agree, you are a racist" attitude.

No taxes
To the editor:
In response to Joel Tyning's Saturday letter to the editor:
Really? "Fourteen-thousand state employees support more than 2 million Nevadans"? What a twisted mind.
We all pay property taxes, sales taxes, vehicle registration fees (taxes). Get real. A 5 percent income tax?
No new or increased taxes.

Robbing us blind
To the editor:
The governor's horrific attempt to further gut Nevada's educational system instead of making the mining industry pay its fair share for what it takes from this state is shameful.
Gov. Jim Gibbons' first allegiance is clearly to the mining lobby, and not to those who elected him. For him to now go hat in hand to Big Mining, begging for a few million dollars, shows who really runs this state (Monday Review-Journal).
If Nevadans ever elect a government with our interests in mind, we will never again have to consider cutting vital services because of one fact: This state is the fourth-largest gold producer on Earth.
Every Nevadan, regardless of affiliation, should demand immediate legislation to put into law new binding taxes and fees on this industry that has robbed us blind for so long.
