Senator just trying to kiss up to Harry Reid

To the editor:

Sen. Max Baucus's Wednesday letter to the editor was nothing more than the Montana Democrat kissing up to a do-nothing Harry Reid.

The question for Sen. Reid: Where are the jobs? Wasn't it Sen. Reid who parroted President Obama's claim that if Congress did not hurry and pass a stimulus bill that unemployment could go over 8 percent? Well, the bill passed yet the national unemployment is now at 10.2 percent and climbing. Here in Las Vegas it far exceeds the national average.

Instead of addressing the unemployment situation and the economy, Sen. Reid is emulating Mr. Obama and pressing the health care bill that will increase our budget deficit to levels beyond our ability to truly comprehend.

Sen. Baucus's lauding of Sen. Reid could backfire, as Sen. Baucus could face the voters in much the same situation as Sen. Reid will next year -- a climate of "vote the bums out of office."

Wingnut comments

To the editor:

In response to Rae Harbour's Thursday letter to the editor, "Hard worker":

President Obama did not slam businesses for having conventions in Las Vegas, as the writer stated. His comment was directed at Wall Street executives crying for government help. He said, "You can't get corporate jets. You can't go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayers' dime."

Personally, I don't want my tax dollars being spent on any of the above.

The problem is how right-wing radio and TV talking heads twisted this statement to mean something else. Then people like Ms. Harbour repeat it.

I know this is a hard concept for some folks, but let me put it simply. Get your facts straight. Just because some neocon wingnut media "personalities" say something does not mean it's true.
