Gov. Sandoval praised for opposing gun measure on Nov. 8 ballot

CARSON CITY — A Nevada gun rights group has praised Gov. Brian Sandoval for opposing Question 1 on the Nov. 8 general election ballot.
Question 1 would expand a requirement for background checks to private gun sales.
“We are glad to see Governor Sandoval stand with the countless Nevadans who have contacted him as far back as 2013 to let him know they oppose restricting our rights when there is no connection to stopping crime,” said Don Turner, president of Nevadans for State Gun Rights.
Nevadans for State Gun Rights is a political action committee that was created in opposition of Question 1. The committee encourages Nevada voters to “Vote No on One.” It operates on grass-roots funding and has had donors and supporters from all over the nation.
Supporters of Question 1 expressed disappointment at Sandoval’s position on the measure.
“The vast majority of Nevadans — including gun owners — support closing loopholes in the state’s background check law,” said Question 1 Campaign Manager Joe Duffy. “It’s disappointing that Governor Sandoval has once again chosen to side with the gun lobby over the citizens of Nevada when it comes to common sense measures to save lives.”
Question 1 has been endorsed by the Nevada Association of Public Safety Officers, Las Vegas Fraternal Order of Police, Nevada State Education Association, Nevada Parent Teacher Association and the Latin Chamber of Commerce.
Question 1 was put on the ballot through the initiative petition process.
