Adams’ chances of playing ’50-50′

If Wink Adams and Lon Kruger have made a decision as to whether the injured senior guard will play in today’s game against No. 18 Louisville, they aren’t making it known.

Adams strained a lower abdominal muscle in the first half of UNLV’s 73-60 victory over Southern Utah on Dec. 23 and has not practiced since.

After missing practice Tuesday, Adams said his chances of playing today are “50-50.”

More telling, however, might have been his response when asked if he would have played if the game was on Tuesday.

“Definitely not,” Adams said.

Kruger said the decision won’t be made until today.

“It will be a game-time decision depending on how it feels,” Kruger said. “If he’s ready to play, he’ll play.”

Much of that will be determined by how Adams feels when the Rebels arrive at Freedom Hall.

“(Right now) if I run full speed, it hurts,” he said. “But it feels better each day. I’ll see how it feels (today). If I can run full speed, there’s a chance I’ll play.”

Adams, the team’s leading scorer, has played in all 115 career games. He said it would be difficult to watch one from the sidelines.

“I can’t let my teammates see me down, so it would be tough not to play in the game, but I’ll cheer them on and have a smile on my face,” he said.
