Warriors coach admits to lying about Game 4 lineup

One of the key moves made by Warriors coach Steve Kerr in Golden State’s 103-82 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4 of the NBA Finals was inserting swingman Andre Iguodala in the starting lineup in place of center Andrew Bogut.

The move, which was announced less than 30 minutes before the opening tip, worked to perfection as Iguodala scored 22 points and helped limit LeBron James to 20 points on 7-for-22 shooting.

Following the series-tying victory, Kerr admitted that he’d purposely lied to the media before Thursday’s game, when he said there wouldn’t be any changes to his starting lineup.

“We made the decision this morning, so when I was asked today if Bogut was starting, I lied,” he said. “If I tell the truth, it’s the equivalent of me knocking on (Cavaliers coach) David Blatt’s door and telling him, ‘this is what we’re going to do.’

“So I lied. Sorry, but I don’t think they hand you the trophy based on morality. They give it to you if you win.”

We can’t blame Kerr for employing a little gamesmanship in Golden State’s pursuit of a championship. At least he came clean after the game.
