TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

4 Bonita Star - Huge class drops offers her a big shot; her race two back, if repeated, would crush these.

2 Sweetrayofsunshine - Claimed by Adam Kitchingman off a nice win; she is 3-fo-3 wins lifetime in Arcardia.

Long Shot - 1 Katy’s Kitty

Race 2 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $35,000, Claiming $32,000, 4-year-olds and up

1 Lamm - Claimed by Bob Hess off a sharp win; draws the rail to save all the ground inside.

7 Arraignment - Takes a big class drop which improves his chances; parking lot post OK with a long run to the first turn.

Long Shot - 3 Dynamic Host

Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

5 Smil’n From Above - Drops to the lowest class level of her career; good tactical speed to sit a good trip.

4 Burton’s Angel - Closed well, but too late, in last as the chalk; facing a similar group, she has a puncher’s chance.

Long Shot - 8 Wrinkle Room

Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, $200,000 Santa Maria, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

2 Book Review - Bob Baffert has a shot to win a trainer equador tonight; should see more pace to rally into.

6 Snow Fall - Exits a nice win in the easier Pasaena; figures to be forwardly placed again.

Long Shot - 5 Lady of Fifty

Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds

1 Midnight Lucky - Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; this one has been burning up the stopwatches.

8 Betises de Cambrai - This is the unheraled part of the Bob Baffert entry; how often does he win with the longer odds horse.

Long Shot - 2 Swimmin Insunshine

Race 6 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $58,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

2 Miss Well Molded - This is clearly the toughest race on the card; Mike Smith can save all the ground inside.

9 Candy Trophy - Has won 3-of-5 on grass so this is where she belongs; tactical speed to sit a close up trip.

Long Shot - 4 Speedi Mouse

Race 7 - 7 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds

8 Del Mar Sunset - No shame losing debut to Demonic and Tiz the Truth; both will be making their next starts in stakes races.

4 Okaad - Other half of the Bob Baffert entry; again, how often does he win a race with the longer price of an uncoupled entry.

Long Shot - 3 Mistaken Identity

Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), $75,000 Sweet Life, Fillies, 3-year-olds

2 Heir Kitty - Ran well in dirt debut last time; she is proven on turf and had a horrible trip two races back.

8 Jubliant Girl - Logical chalk off two flawless wins to start her career; both came down the hillside turf course too.

Long Shot - 6 Escape Act

Race 9 - 6 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

5 Lady Katfish - Her graduation win got her eligible for this low first level condition; repeat race beats these too.

8 Spring Gal - Turned things around in start two with a big win; showed improved early speed and got right into the race.

Long Shot - 6 Boller Bomb

Race 10 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $35,000, Maiden claiming $75,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

2 Exchange Student - Flattered when Sarachi and Magnificent Shirl both won next time out; we call that a key race.

9 Tebowing - Another who exits a key race; got a test drive in debut for Mike Mitchell, expect improvement tonight.

Long Shot - 8 Hard Buns

Best Bet - 5 Lady Katfish (race 9)

Santa Anita Park Friday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/3/$24.20; Long Shots, 7/1/$9.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Park Totals - 517/142/$943.90; Long Shots, 254/33/$370.20; Best Bets, 29/9/$38.00

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #1 Don’t Tell Sophia (8/5) in race 9 at Oaklawn Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Friday, Readthebylines won at Aqueduct paying $5.50 to win, $2.90 to place and $2.70 to show. Stats - 27/19/$137.70; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
