Bishop Gorman can’t stop rally by De La Salle

De La Salle used a pair of clock-consuming drives in the fourth quarter to defeat visiting Bishop Gorman 28-14 Saturday night in Concord, Calif.
With the game tied at 14, the Spartans turned to the ground game, driving 80 yards on 13 plays, capped by a 4-yard TD pass from Bart Houston to Anthony Williams with 6:17 to play.
De La Salle, ranked ninth in the nation by USA Today, ran the ball 11 times on the drive, eight by Lucas Dunne, who had 50 yards on the drive.
After a Gorman punt, the Spartans drove 62 yards on eight plays capped by a 2-yard run by Houston with 1:30 to play that made it 28-14.
With the game tied at 14 early in the fourth quarter, Gorman's Collin Ditsworth attempted a 52-yard field-goal attempt. But the kick was short, and Gorman ran just three offensive plays after that.
Dunne rushed for 132 yards, 112 in the second half.
Gorman led 14-7 at the half, and Shaquille Powell came up with a leaping interception at the Gaels 9 midway through the third quarter.
But Powell, who finished with 114 yards on 21 carries, fumbled on the first play of the ensuing drive, setting up a 19-yard TD run by Dunne that tied the game at 14 with 5:26 to go in the third quarter.
■ The Meadows 34, Mountain View 26 -- At Mountain View, Garrett Gosse found running back Chase Marrs open on a wheel route for an 80-yard touchdown pass on the first offensive play of the second half, breaking a 12-all tie and leading the Mustangs to victory in the absence of coach Frank DeSantis.
The Saints (2-3, 1-1 Class 2A Southern League) lost a fumble on their ensuing possession. The Meadows (2-2, 2-0) took advantage with a nine-play, 70-yard drive capped by Gosse's 7-yard TD pass to Taylor Beck to take a 26-12 lead.
Gosse, a junior, completed 16 of 24 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns. He fired a 28-yard scoring strike to Richard Lee to give the Mustangs a 34-18 lead with 11:50 remaining.
Assistant Paul Wood filled in for DeSantis, who was in Minnesota to be with his ailing father.
