Injury forces featherweight Gary Russell Jr. out of Nov. 14 bout

World featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr. suffered a cut during training Monday and his Nov. 14 fight against Oscar Escandon at the Hard Rock Hotel on Showtime has been cancelled.

TGB Promotions, which is putting on the card, hopes to hold the card as scheduled and a replacement for Russell, the current World Boxing Council champion, is being sought.

"We'e trying to salvage the show," said Tom Brown, the head of TGB Promotions. "We hope to know one way or the other by Wednesday afternoon. I've been in touch with the (Nevada Athletic) Commission and they're aware of the situation. We're working with them to see what we can do to keep the date."

A Showtime spokesman said the network was looking at its options and would have a decision by either this afternoon or Thursday at the latest, of its intentions.
