Eighth-inning singles party lifts 51s over River Cats

The 51s strung together five consecutive singles in the eighth inning Sunday, scoring two runs to break a 3-3 tie in beating the Sacramento River Cats 5-3 in a Pacific Coast League game in Sacramento, Calif.

With one out, Delwyn Young lined a single to center off Alec Zumwalt, and Michael Rivera followed with a single to left. John Lindsey -- who homered in the fourth inning -- then singled to score Young from second.

A change of pitchers didn't help the River Cats, as Jeffrey Gray gave up an infield single to Choo Freeman, and Luis Maza hit a line-drive single to center to score Rivera.

Marlon Anderson had an RBI groundout in the fifth inning for Las Vegas (32-38), and Wilkin Ruan had a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Reliever Mitt Riley (2-1) got the win, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out three in 2 1/3 innings. Starter Miguel Pinango went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks, with six strikeouts.

Zumwalt (0-4) took the loss for Sacramento (39-32), allowing three runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings, with one strikeout.
