English bowler Barrett leads in PBA World Championship

England's Dom Barrett held the lead in the PBA World Championship at South Point Bowling Center, adding a solid effort in 16 games of match play Wednesday to 32 games played in prior World Series of Bowling events this week for a 48-game pinfall of 11,687.

Australian Jason Belmonte was six pins back in second, with eight more match-play games to roll today to determine the top five for the stepladder finals.

Meanwhile, Finland's Osku Palermaa and Belmonte finished 1-2 in the semifinals of the Scorpion Championship late Tuesday night. Palermaa had a 14-game total of 3,295, edging Belmonte by two pins. Those two will be joined in Sunday's stepladder finals by Jason Sterner and Tom Daugherty.
