How to watch the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight for free

Turns out you don’t have to be Nick Burns, Your Company’s Computer Guy, to rig a laptop computer so you can watch Saturday’s Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Manny Pacquiao fight for free.

At least not if you live in Mexico.

The World Boxing Council told TMZ Sports that the big bout will be shown on free TV south of the border. Tecate beer is one of the fight’s official sponsors, and that apparently has paved the way for the live fisticuffs to be shown on the Televisa and Azteca networks.

“MAYWEATHER VS. PACQUIAO — IT PAYS TO BE MEXICAN” said the TMZ headline. “Whole Country Gets Fight for Free!”

It would be cost prohibitive to fly to Mexico just to see the fight. But if you had a Prius, and you drove to San Diego, and you bought the Mexican insurance at the border, perhaps there’s a way to make it work.

I would be leery of taking a cab down there, however. Tijuana taxi drivers have been known to take the long way to town, and they always keep the meter running.

A good backup plan would be to call Salma Hayek, who was born in Veracruz, and find out if she’s gonna be home Saturday night.
