Ex-Reno High player Czyz might transfer from Duke to UNR
Former Reno High School basketball star Olek Czyz is considering transferring from Duke to UNR.
The 6-foot-7-inch sophomore forward announced this month he intends to leave Duke because of a lack of playing time. He watched the Wolf Pack's 78-69 victory over Portland in Reno on Monday.
Czyz played in only 19 games in his freshman and sophomore seasons at Duke, averaging 1.2 points a game.
He said UNR and Arizona State are at the top of his list. The Poland native says his familiarity with UNR's Armon Johnson and Luke Babbitt -- both from Reno -- weigh in the Wolf Pack's favor.
He expects to decide within two weeks so he can enroll for the spring semester and begin playing midway through next season.
Also: Suspended Iowa guard Anthony Tucker pleaded guilty to public intoxication after his arrest last week.
Johnson County, Iowa, District Court officials said Tucker entered his plea Monday, though they could not confirm sentencing details. The Gazette in Cedar Rapids reported Tuesday that Tucker will pay $195 in fines and fees.
Tucker was arrested by Iowa City police last week. Police say the 20-year-old Tucker, the team's second-leading scorer, accused the driver of taking his cell phone and allegedly was hitting the side of the cab.
The sophomore also pleaded guilty to public intoxication in December 2008. In January 2009, Tucker was ruled academically ineligible to play, but he returned to the Hawkeyes this season.
Illinois junior guard Alex Legion is leaving the team and will transfer to another school. Legion played 33 games for the Illini, totaling 107 points.
Two Missouri women's basketball players suspended after an off-campus fight Dec. 11 with a male cheerleader are back in action.
Seniors Amanda Hanneman and Jessra Johnson came off the bench Monday in the Tigers' 71-44 win over North Texas. The two were leading the team in scoring before their suspensions, but coach Cindy Stein told the players they had to earn playing time.
Johnson had eight points and nine rebounds, and Hanneman scored five points.
