Derby-winning jockey borel charged with DWI

Three-time Kentucky Derby-winning jockey Calvin Borel has been arrested on a drunken driving charge in Indiana.

The 44-year-old Louisville, Ky., resident was released on $100 bond Sunday morning from the Vanderburgh County Jail in Evansville after being arrested the night before. He is due in court today.

His agent, Jerry Hissam of Louisville, said Borel's blood-alcohol level tested slightly above Indiana's legal limit of 0.08 percent when he was arrested about 10 p.m. Saturday as he pulled into the parking lot of the motel where he was staying.

Also: Hungry Island rallied from well behind the leaders in the final quarter-mile and scored a 2½-length upset victory in the $150,000 Lake Placid Stakes for fillies and mares at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Alex Solis rode the Shug McGaughey-trained 3-year-old, who was sixth of seven and extremely wide turning into the stretch while running over yielding ground on the main turf course. She ran 1 1/8 miles in 1 minute, 53.77 seconds in her fourth straight win, paying $21.40, $8.50 and $12.20.

Favored 4-year-old filly Tanda took the lead on the turn and faced no serious challenge as she won the $150,000 Rancho Bernardo Handicap, a sprint for fillies and mares at Del Mar, Calif.

Ridden by Joe Talamo, Tanda was a distant third in the small field of four in the early going, but she took a 1½-length lead at the halfway point and went on to beat She's Cheeky by 1¼ lengths, covering 6½ furlongs in 1:15.34.

Trained by Mike Mitchell for owner Tommy Hutton's Dream Stable, Tanda paid $4.80 and $3.
