Las Vegan Joey Gallo activated at Double-A Frisco

Bryce Harper. Kris Bryant. Joey Gallo.

These are the deities that form Las Vegas’ holy trinity of youthful home run hitters.

Harper, 22, is doing what Harper does — he’s hitting .270 for the Nationals, with five dingers. Maybe he’s making another Gatorade commercial, maybe he isn’t.

Bryant, 23, hasn’t rung the home run bell yet for the Cubs, but he’s hitting for a high average, and he’s showing a lot of patience at the plate until he gets a fastball to swing it.

Gallo, 21, whose 42 homers in the minor leagues last season trailed only Bryant’s 43, has mostly been injured. He had foot surgery on April 3. He returned to the lineup at Double-A Frisco (Texas) on Saturday, going 0-for-3 as designated hitter. Like Bryant, he’s usually a third baseman when healthy.

So that foot surgery is probably why you haven’t heard much from Joey Gallo recently, when you’ve heard so much from — and about — his boyhood pal Kris Bryant.

Here’s a pretty cool picture Gallo posted on his Twitter account from spring training, though, showing how he and his idol Jason Giambi have aged over the past 10 years.

Now that Gallo’s powers have been activated in Double-A, which is how one blogger put it, it shouldn’t be long until the junior member of the holy trinity is heard from, too.

The top prospect in the Texas Rangers’ organization, Gallo went 2-for-4 with a double in Frisco’s 5-2 loss to Corpus Christi on Sunday.
