Late homer sends 51s to 5-4 road loss

Brett Dowdy broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning with a two-run homer off 51s reliever Davis Romero, and the Portland Beavers held on for a 5-4 victory over Las Vegas in the Pacific Coast League on Saturday at Portland, Ore.

Dowdy's third homer of the season followed Danny Putnam's single off Romero (3-6).

The 51s (70-72) had tied the game with two runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Howie Clark and Brian Dopirak. Both had two hits, as did Kevin Howard, to lead a 10-hit attack by Las Vegas.

The teams play at 2:05 p.m. today and again at 2:05 p.m. Monday in the season finale.
