Local colleges roundup: UNLV baseball edges Fresno State, 9-8

UNLV scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning and defeated host Fresno State 9-8 in a Mountain West baseball game. The Rebels (21-8, 6-4) got a two-run double from Mark Shannon and a sacrifice fly from Bryan Bonnell in the inning.
Also:
■ Amanda Oliveto pitched a six-hit complete game to power UNLV to a 4-1 softball victory over Fresno State at Eller Media Stadium. The Rebels improved to 15-21 overall and 1-3 in the Mountain West.
■ The UNLV men’s golf team is third after the first round of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. The Rebels shot 1-under-par 283 and trail leader New Mexico by seven shots and San Diego State by two. UNLV sophomore Kurt Kitayama (67) is fourth, three strokes off the individual lead.
■ The UNLV men’s tennis team defeated New Mexico 4-3 in Albuquerque. After losing the doubles point, the Rebels (14-5, 2-1 Mountain West) won four of six in singles.
■ The UNLV women’s tennis team lost to host San Diego State 4-3 to fall to 10-6 overall and 0-1 in the Mountain West.
■ The College of Southern Nevada lost to North Idaho 2-0 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference softball game at Coeurd’Alene, Idaho. The second game was rained out, leaving CSN at 22-22 overall and 15-18 in the SWAC.
