Mills’ sharp pitching performance fuels 51s’ victory

Left-hander Brad Mills took a perfect game into the sixth inning to help the 51s defeat the Portland Beavers 10-1 Tuesday in a Pacific Coast League game in Portland, Ore.

Mills (5-4), who walked none and struck out six, gave up a leadoff single in the sixth to Lance Zawadski, who advanced to second on an error by left fielder Aaron Mathews.

Mills struck out the next two batters before Luis Durango singled home Zawadski. Mills induced a ground ball for the third out and left with a 4-1 lead.

51s relievers Bubbie Buzachero and Lance Broadway finished the six-hitter.

Las Vegas (40-46) broke open the game with a six-run seventh, highlighted by Raul Chavez's two-run double.

J.P. Arencibia, Mathews and Chavez each had two hits and two RBIs for the 51s.

Arencibia's 22nd home run, a two-run shot in the third, gave Las Vegas a 2-0 lead.
