Former UFC champ Jon Jones arrested on probation violation

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champ Jon Jones was arrested Tuesday in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for violating his probation after he was cited for allegedly drag racing Friday morning, TMZ reported.

The Bernalillo County jail website lists Jones as being taken into custody at 10 a.m. and booked at 11:07 on Tuesday.

“UFC is aware that Jon Jones turned himself into the Albuquerque Police Department this morning for a potential probation violation stemming from a traffic stop last week,” a statement from the organization read. “UFC has been in touch with Jones’ legal team and will have no further comment until the organization has had appropriate time to gather necessary information.”

Jones, 28, is on probation as a result of pleading guilty in a hit-and-run case stemming from an April 2015 incident. He was stripped of his UFC title after fleeing the scene of an accident in which a pregnant woman was injured.

One of the terms of his probation was an order to stay out of trouble with law enforcement.

Jones received tickets for five violations when he was pulled over Friday after a police officer spotted him revving his engine at a red light.

Jones, scheduled to fight for the belt against Daniel Cormier on April 23 at the MGM Grand Garden, was extremely agitated with the officer in a body cam video released Monday, cursing and calling him several derogatory names.

In a radio interview on “The MMA Hour” on Monday, Jones denied drag racing and said he was acknowledging fans that recognized him at the light.

He was ticketed in January for failing to produce valid license, registration and proof of insurance during a traffic stop, but those tickets were dismissed when he presented the documents to the court. A judge determined those citations were not a violation of the terms of his probation.

Jones also pleaded guilty to DUI charges after crashing his Bentley into a telephone poll in Binghamton, New York, in 2012.
