Kwasniewski excels in Pro West Series
Dylan Kwasniewski, Las Vegas' next great hopeful of finding success in NASCAR, is off to an impressive start in the organization's K&N Pro West Series.
He won the Pick-N-Pull 150 on Saturday in Stockton, Calif., placing him atop the series standings.
Kwasniewski won from the pole and led every lap for his third series victory and first this season but said he constantly worried whether he was asking too much from his car. The seven restarts probably didn't help, either.
"It's hard to stay out front," Kwasniewski said. "It was more mentally exhausting than physically exhausting."
He will race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's Bullring on Saturday, competing in the Super Late Models and Modified classes.
Kwasniewski also will compete in the Star Nursery 200 K&N Race at the Bullring on June 2.
He turns 17 on May 31 and a year from then will be eligible to compete in a major NASCAR division. Kwasniewski hopes to join the Nationwide Series.
"Any of the top series would be more than great," Kwasniewski said. "Nationwide is the one we're shooting for, and it would be great to get in that.
"I'm already thinking about that. I'm already thinking about the next step. But my first priority is to win the championship, and if we're able to, that would show that I'm capable of doing well."

That includes Paul Romine, who will defend his title at the Memorial Day weekend event at The Strip at LVMS.
Two open Sportsman classes were added to this year's races, which are part of a carnival-like setting that includes rockabilly bands, two pin-up contests and a car show.
■ GOING TO THE DOGS - The Nationwide Series garage at LVMS will be a dog lover's dream Saturday and Sunday.
More than 300 canines will take part in the Fly'N Aces Need 4Speed Flyball Tournament. Proceeds benefit the Greg Biffle Foundation, an organization that tries to improve the welfare of animals.
