River Cats get to Gaudin in fifth, coast past 51s

Jermaine Mitchell doubled home two runs to highlight a four-run fifth inning as the Sacramento River Cats defeated the 51s 5-1 in the Pacific Coast League Tuesday at West Sacramento, Calif.
Mitchell had two hits for the River Cats, who got to Las Vegas losing pitcher Chad Gaudin (2-2) for six hits and five runs in 4 1/3 innings. Relief pitchers Winston Abreu and Scott Richmond held Sacramento without a hit the rest of the way.
The 51s outhit the River Cats 7-6 but managed only one run. It came in the sixth when Jayson Nix singled and scored on a double to center field by Ryan Shealy.
Shealy and Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits each for Las Vegas (68-70) in its second straight loss to Sacramento (83-55), which already has clinched first place in the PCL Pacific Southern Division.
The River Cats' Tyson Ross went six innings, allowing five hits and an earned run in improving his record to 3-2.
