Runner gets hit by lightning, finishes race 3rd

An ultra distance runner participating in a 100-miler race last Friday night in Colorado has quite the story to tell after he got hit by lightning and still managed to finish the race in third place.

According to Competitor.com, Canadian runner Adam Campbell and his pacer, Aaron Heidt, saw the thunderstorm begin to form around the 60-mile mark on a high peak and were hit by the lightning as they were trying to get out of the area quickly.

“There’s nothing up there, no place to hide, no rocks, no trees, nothing,” Campbell told Competitor.com. “We really didn’t have much of a choice. We wanted to get over the peak as soon as we could and get out of there.”

The pair hit the ground when the lightning struck and then were able to keep going after they realized they were OK.
