Redskins quarterback RG3 cleans out locker, leaves letter

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III did not talk to reporters Monday, but he left a letter in his now-empty locker at team headquarters.

RG3's tenure in Washington is likely over after the Redskins' 35-18 NFC wild-card defeat to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Griffin let Dr. Kent M. Keith speak for him via a letter left in his cleaned-out locker. The letter references "The Paradoxical Commandments," which was written by Keith in 1968 and is based on a poem by Mother Teresa.

Here is the text of the letter, typed up with various-sized fonts and a team logo in the background:

"People are often unreasonable, irrational & self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of self, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends, and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway. If you are honest & sincere, people may deceive you. Be honest & sincere anyway.

"What you spend years creating others could destroy overnight. Create anyway. If you find serenity & happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today, will often by forgotten. Do good anyway. Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway. In the final analysis, it's between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway."

The letter was put up in Griffin's locker earlier this season, according to ESPN's John Keim.

Redskins linebacker Keenan Robinson took to Twitter and referred the letter as another example of the professionalism Griffin displayed this season after losing his starting job to Kirk Cousins:

"1 of many reasons @RGIII's career is far from over. He handled his situation with professionalism and class #Respect," Robinson tweeted.

Griffin was inactive for 16 of the Redskins' 17 games this season after losing his starting job in the preseason. The Redskins have until March 9 to release Griffin or pay him the $16.2 million option they picked up for 2016.

After leading the Redskins to the playoffs in his rookie season of 2012, Griffin struggled because of injuries and poor play. He has career totals of 8,097 yards, 40 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.
