Stallion Mountain closure surprising
Golfers with Monday tee times at Stallion Mountain Country Club didn't even need to take their clubs out of the trunk.
That is, if they even made it to the parking lot.
The club, located at 5500 E. Flamingo Road, closed at the end of business Sunday, apparently with little warning.
Club members received a message Saturday afternoon informing them the course would close Sunday, and that the clubhouse would be secured and not accessible Monday.
"It is recommended that if you need any personal items from bag storage or lockers that you do this prior to the end of business on Sunday, July 13th," the message read.
A golf course employee who declined to be identified confirmed Monday the course had closed and referred questions to Pacific Golf Enterprises, a San Clemente, Calif.-based company that manages Stallion Mountain.
Another club employee, who was advised not to speak to the media about the closing, said the club was apparently "temporarily closed." The employee added there was no date mentioned for reopening.
"It's very limited information that we have," the employee said, adding that the decision to close the course was made by the owners. The employee declined to name the course owners.
Phil Vigil, listed on Pacific Golf Enterprises' Web site as the chief operating officer, did not return a phone call. A course worker at Shorecliffs Golf Course in San Clemente said he believed Vigil and other company executives were in Las Vegas on Monday and weren't expected to return until Wednesday.
The Web site for Stallion Mountain made no mention of the club being closed and included a slogan that read, "Where all players are treated like a VIP." The club was still accepting reservations for tee times through its Web site.
Along with an 18-hole golf course, the club has a dining area and meeting facilities, which also are closed.
"We had heard rumors right when they were about to close," said Jacque Petroulakis, director of public affairs for Pulte Homes, the ownership company of the Solera at Stallion Mountain housing development. The development is within the gated area of Stallion Mountain.
"There are residents who are members of the club, but we're still trying to gather information. We're finding this out as the members are."
