Syndergaard pitches, hits 51s to 14th straight victory
Noah Syndergaard pitched eight strong innings and went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and two runs as the 51s extended their franchise record with their 14th straight win, an 8-2 rout of the Albuquerque Isotopes in a Pacific Coast League game Thursday in Albuquerque, N.M.
Syndergaard (3-0) held the Isotopes (11-17) to two runs on five hits and no walks and struck out eight. He doubled leading off Las Vegas’ two-run third inning and hit a two-run homer in the fourth.
Darrell Ceciliani had an RBI triple in the third inning and a run-scoring single in the eighth for the 51s (20-8), who had a 13-5 edge in hits.
Dan Rohlfing, Brandon Allen and Travis Taijeron each had an RBI double for Las Vegas, which led 6-0 after five innings.
Tim Smalling had a two-out RBI single in the sixth for Albuquerque, and Ben Paulsen led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run.
Isotopes starter Shane Carle gave up six runs on nine hits and one walk and struck out three in six innings.
