Track design unveiled for Monster Energy Cup
An animated diagram of the new Monster Energy Cup track design at Sam Boyd Stadium was released today. It shows the Monster Energy logo and the Toyota logo with animated banners waving in the breeze, flying around jumps and whoop-de-doos and the notorious Joker Lane.
They sort of look like tadpoles, or something from this filmstrip they showed us in high school about the male reproductive system.
Anyway, the new Ricky Carmichael design looks pretty awesome. If the filmstrip they showed us in high school looked this awesome, I probably would have paid more attention in health class.
“Just when you think the Monster Energy Cup track design couldn’t get any more interesting, [Ricky] Carmichael finds a way to make it even more challenging,” said Ryan Dungey, one of the top riders.
“The track requires the perfect blend of persistence and aggressiveness. Bike setup is also key on this track. And you can’t forget about the Joker Lane, which can be your worst enemy, especially if you forget to go through it.”
Which, I believe, is what happened to Dungey in last year’s race.
This year’s Monster Energy Cup at Sam Boyd Stadium is set for Oct. 18. All the top riders will be there. Only they’ll be riding finely tuned Supercross bikes instead of these things that look like tadpoles.
