Hauck completes first recruiting class with Canadian OT

UNLV football coach Bobby Hauck completed his first recruiting class by going to Canada to sign Brett Boyko from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Boyko (6 feet 7 inches, 288 pounds) will play offensive tackle. He was a defensive lineman his sophomore and junior seasons and a quarterback last year.

Mississippi recruited Boyko as a tight end, but wanted him to walk on. Eastern Washington and Montana State later entered the picture, and he visited both schools.

Boyko was on the verge of accepting Montana State's scholarship offer when Eastern Washington coaches contacted Hauck, who quickly became interested in the player. Boyko visited last week, watched the Rebels practice and was convinced UNLV was the school for him.

"It was cool seeing that level and that competitiveness in practice," Boyko said. "I could see the intensity. There are a whole bunch of people who want to win there badly."
