The UNLV men’s soccer team struggled defensively in a 5-1 loss to Cal State Fullerton at the Labor Day Classic in Northridge, Calif.
UNLV should at least try something different Saturday than what it offered Jan. 5, when BYU star Jimmer Fredette scored 39 points and the Cougars pasted the host Rebels 89-77.
UNLV makes perhaps its final visit to Brigham Young on Saturday, hoping to create a memory that’s nearly as good as the Rebels’ first trip to Provo, Utah. UNLV rallied from 17 points down to beat the eighth-ranked Cougars 45-41 in that 1981 game, still the highest-rated opponent the Rebels have defeated.
As a former UNLV starting quarterback, Bob Stockham will be disappointed if the Rebels and Wisconsin don’t continue their football series beyond 2011.
