18 players left in the Main Event as Candio still leads
The World Series of Poker’s Main Event is down to the final 18 players and the grouping is being reshuffled to two tables of nine.
Michiel Sijpkens of the Netherlands busted out in 19th place the $10,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em World Championship event, taking home $317,161.
That move led to the reshuffling of players.
Filippo Candio of Italy is still the chip leader with 26 million while John Racener of Port Richey, Fla., is in second with 23.4 million in chips. Pascal LeFrancois of Rosemare, Quebec, Canada, is in third with 22.3 million in chips. Two other Canadians, Jonathan Duhamel of Boucherville, Quebec, and Matthew Jarvis of Surrey, British Columbia, are fourth and fifth.
Matt Affleck of Mill Creek, Wash., recovered after some early set backs and regained his top 10 status by moving into sixth place.
The day’s original chip leader, Joseph Cheong of La Mirada, Calif., was in 8th place with 12 million in chips.
Some 7,319 players began play in the Main Event on July 5. Players were vying to become part of the Main Event’s final table of nine. They will return to the Rio on Nov. 6 to play for a top prize of more than $8.9 million.
