2 shot, another bludgeoned after brawl in LDS parking lot

Two people were shot and another bludgeoned after a fight broke out in the parking lot of a Mormon church in California.

The fight started in the parking lot of a meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints following a Sunday service in Oakley, Calif., the Contra Costa Times reported. The incident started when two groups began arguing and a member of one group began hitting someone with a crowbar or hammer.

A member of the other group began firing shots, Oakley police Sgt. Robert Roberts said.

“Tempers flew and they used no judgment whatsoever, and what I would call stupidity in deciding to do something like that where there were kids and a lot of houses around,” Roberts said.

All victims had non-life threatening injuries and no arrests were made as of Sunday night. It wasn’t clear whether those involved had anything to do with the church.
