After Senate marathon, Reid ready for recess
As if averting a default crisis was not incentive enough, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada gave senators further reason to pass a debt bill today.
Reid on Monday promised them an early start to their month-long summer recess that was scheduled to begin at the end of the week.
After working pressured hours and through two weekends, Reid said senators could use the break, including himself.
"I think the Senate deserves to be able to go home as soon as we can. If there were ever a time when we needed to work with our constituents, it is now," Reid said.
" For me, personally, I have been here for a long time," Reid said. "I have a home in Nevada that I haven’t seen in months. My pomegranate trees are, I am told, blossoming and have some pomegranates on them. I have some fig trees and roses and stuff that I just haven’t seen. I have constituents I am anxious to see, friends I need to visit, relatives I need to visit. So as soon as we can complete our work, I would like to move as quickly as I can to the summer recess period."
