Another Internet genius bites the dust

It's just a theory, but I think Steve Friess just might hate my guts. Take a look at this angry mess of an alleged "opinion" on copyright infringement and let me know. Can you say "obsessed"?

He's all wrong and hopelessly bent on almost everything he writes in that piece, but that will have to wait for another day, I am sorry to say.

For now, let me remind all that Steve Friess is a former disloyal employee of mine who by his own admission sabotaged the newspaper while still cashing our paycheck. That is the essence of Steve Friess.

When he left the newspaper, he started a website.

He once boasted to me that he was making sooooo much money on his website that it was almost unbelievable. He said that if he can make so much money he didn't understand why stupid legacy newspaper guys like me and the Las Vegas Sun couldn't make a lot of money too.

Well, we now find out in the midst of this recession that Steve is leaving his website, tail between his legs, to go back to school in Michigan (lovely winters, I am told).

The salient point is that why would this Internet and newspaper genius give up making money hand-over-fist to go back to school to learn more about newspapers and the Internet for a mere stipend of $60k.

Guess that internet gig of his wasn't quite what he made it out to be. And neither is his opinion about what's going on with the vital fight over newspaper copyright protection in this country. After a career running newspapers, I now own three in semi-retirement and I can tell you that the fight to protect a reporter's content from theft has never been more important.

They might tell you about it in school, Steve. Study harder.
