Business owner installs Rolladens after break-in

Long-time Southern Nevadan Tom Jones of Jones Media had nine shutters installed over 520 square feet of windows and doors following two break-ins about two years ago.

After the first break-in, Jones mounted plywood on the building until the windows could be replaced. Burglars returned and broke through the temporary coverings.

"You feel so violated when someone breaks into your business," Jones said. "We're very lucky that more wasn't stolen. We feel very secure with the shutters. We can shut these down and nobody can get in anymore. The shutters are also very good for the heat or cold.

"I could have put iron bars on the building, but that would have made it look like a jail. I really like the looks of the shutters. When we close the shutters at the end of the day, we know everything is going to be the same when we come back. This is like our second home. It's our life, where we generate our income."

The rolling shutters were also installed on a large east-face window of the business. The key there is the fact that the shutters keep the glare out of the office.

Jones is now thinking about having the shutters installed on the family getaway.

"I am going to do it for sure," he said. "I just need to get the measurements."

Rolladen Rolling Shutters Vice President Bianca Minnozzi said her business has increased due to an increased number of companies installing her shutters as a crime deterrent.

The shutters are roll-filled aluminum slats used to cover doors and windows on both residences and businesses.

Bianca said the shutters not only eliminate break-ins, but also lower power consumption as much as 64 percent.

She said there has never been a recorded break-in of a residence or business equipped with Rolladen Rolling Shutters.

Rolladen Rolling Shutters was formed about 20 years ago by Fran Minnozzi, who discovered the product while working as an airline stewardess. The company has two offices -- 6168 W. Charleston Blvd., just west of Jones; and a new location at 4405 Wagon Trail Ave., near Arville and Sunset roads in the southwestern valley.

The showrooms are open 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, call 878-1072 or visit www.rolladenlv.com.
