Every dog has its day and Friday was Rosie’s day.
In early June, a dog in Southern California was found with a shoelace embedded around her neck. Staff at Riverside County Department of Animal Services said the shoelace probably had been there since the dog was a puppy.
The German shepherd mix was found sitting in the middle of a street near Perris, southeast of Riverside. Ernesto Perez, 19, was heading home from working a graveyard shift and noticed the dog walking toward him.
After the dog was taken to the shelter, Perez couldn’t stop thinking about her. He called to check up on her and asked if he could visit, John Welsh, a spokesman for Animal Services, said.
On Friday, Perez adopted the dog, now known as Rosie, KTLA reported.
Riverside police officer John Hergenreder said the case “is one of the more serious cases of neglect I have seen.”
