A variety of camps are planned for children during the summer in southwest Las Vegas.
LAS VEGAS LITTLE THEATRE
The Las Vegas Little Theatre, 3920 Schiff Drive, is set to offer its Summer Youth Theatre Academy from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday from June 30 through July 25.
The camp is designed for children ages 6 to 12 to learn about improvisation, musicals, dramas and comedies. Academy director Emily Fagan-Baker plans to have the children perform a 20-minute show each Friday using a script they created.
“I’ve designed the program so that if a kid comes to the whole camp, they feel like they’re building on what they’ve learned,” Fagan-Baker said, “but a kid can also pop in one week and not feel behind.”
The cost is $175 per week. Extended care is set to be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for an additional $25 per week. Registration is required and ongoing.
“I do everything in my power to make sure I don’t turn anyone away,” Fagan-Baker said. “Making money allows us to continue to do the things we’re doing at the theater, but this is mostly about building a community and allowing everyone to get involved.”
Youths 13 to 18 are also encouraged to apply for a summer internship at the theater.

Camps are planned weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon for ages 8 to 11 and 1 to 5 p.m. for ages 12 to 16.
Children are scheduled to learn about blocking and script writing, props, set building and more.
“We’ll start out with the basics and move all the way into sharing a performance on Saturday, June 28,” said Kris Shepherd, theater administrator. “We try to help them become good artists. We’re not trying to make them stars but rather make them aware of art as a whole.
“Most importantly, we know this is their vacation, so we want them to have fun.”
