COUNCILMAN ROSS WINS RECALL ELECTION
Ward 6 Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Ross defeated city Planning Commissioner Byron Goynes in a special recall election Jan. 31.
Ross won by a margin of 4,319 to 1,845, and he is to hold his City Council seat through the end of his term, which is set to expire in June 2013.
In December, local and state elections officials certified 1,105 signatures that were amassed in a recall petition circulated by the Committee to Recall Steve Ross. The recall organizers' platform against Ross involved issues such as a dispute with car dealer Joe Scala and allegations that Ross accepted a Las Vegas City Council pay raise after promising to reject it.

Voting lasts through March 23. The top 25 vote yielders are judged by a panel of photography experts, and the top three are to receive awards, including a camera, gift cards and a savings bond.
