Couple moves to Del Webb’s Sun City Mesquite from Las Vegas

About 10 years ago, former New Jersey residents, George and Ruth Plishka, began to look for a home and community for their retirement years. Having visited Las Vegas many times over the years, the couple liked the area and purchased a home in Las Vegas in 2002. A short while later they found a home in Del Webb's Sun City Mesquite, an age-qualified community in Mesquite.

The community is located about 80 miles north of Las Vegas and a 30-minute drive south of St. George, Utah. A selection of 14 single-story home designs are available, ranging from 1,200 to 3,100 square feet. Prices start in the low $170,000s.

"We missed the small town ambience we had in New Jersey and also wanted a community that offered nice on-site recreational amenities such as a recreation center and various opportunities for social events and activities," George Plishka said. "While living in Las Vegas, we had stopped in Mesquite many times on our way to visit the national parks in Southern Utah, so we became familiar with feel of the town, which we liked very much.

"Then, we heard that Del Webb was developing Sun City Mesquite and decided to go up and take a close look at what they had to offer. As soon as we drove in, the initial landscaping and the various plans for the community were quite impressive. At the time, the sales pavilion and model homes had just opened. Once we walked through the models, we were sold.

"Today, we're enjoying our home and community immensely, including the recreational center, which is absolutely beautiful and offers so much in the way of activities and social opportunities."

The Plishkas chose the Aster design at Sun City Mesquite. The home features two bedrooms, two baths, den, great room, a breakfast nook, an attached two-car garage, a covered patio and measures about 1,449 square feet.

Residents of Sun City Mesquite have private access to a 30,000-square-foot Community Recreation Center, which provides a complete range of recreational and social opportunities.

A major highlight of the community is Conestoga, an 18-hole, championship, daily fee golf course (managed by Troon Golf) which will be open to public play and is set for completion later this year.
