February 21, 2012 - 12:15 am
PICK OF THE WEEK:
BULDOGIS GOURMET HOT DOGS
Village Square, 2291 S. Fort Apache Road, 570-7560
Let's begin by understanding that Bulgogi is a well-known Korean dish, usually meat cooked over an open flame. Buldogis is a combination of two words: "bul" is Korean and means fired or grilled. Dogis, according to management, is English and is the plural for hot dogs. Put it all together, and you have some really unusual all-beef, premium hot dogs with a Korean personality. The Hawaiian Dog has pork belly, pineapple salsa, green onions and honey Dijon mustard. The Teriyaki comes with roasted peppers, sesame seeds, and teriyaki sauce. The Angry Dog is spicy pork bulgogi with Asian slaw, diced jalapenos and fiery mayo. More traditional dogs are the chili cheese, jumbo chicken corn dog, East Coast (pastrami, sauerkraut, tomato), Chicago, Turkey, West Coast with pico de gallo and avocado mayo, and vegetarian. Build your own by requesting such toppings as Asian slaw, kimchi, caramelized onions, chili, fried egg, BBB or sun-dried tomato ketchup, corn relish or roasted garlic mustard. Desserts include homemade bread pudding. Buldogis begin at $4.95. Buldogis is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. -- Jack Bulavsky
