Dining Pick of the Week: Poppy Den

The restaurant’s full name is Poppy Den by Chef Angelo Sosa. What you need to know is that this Asian gastropub from the award-winning Sosa is fun, delicious and charitable. Small plates include sweet pea soup, Amma’s Homemade Tomato Soup, crispy pork dumplings, crab toast with mango mustard, Korean barbecue short ribs and tuna deviled eggs. Several sandwiches are tofu, Poppy Burger with sweet and sour pickles and fried egg, fish sandwich with onion jam and Chicken Dog on brioche. Popular entrees include striped bass with edamame puree, miso salmon, Grandma’s Roasted Chicken and steak and potatoes. Several sides are charred bok choy, kimchi fried rice and Poppy Fries. The Saturday-Sunday brunch features Poppy’s Basket (scones, croissants, honey, blueberry jam), eggs Benedict with Korean hollandaise and polenta cake, mochi pancakes and shrimp and grits. Happy hour is daily from 3 to 6 p.m. with $5 specials, including watermelon salad with goat cheese, mozzarella and tomato salad and The General’s Chicken Wings. Ask about Meaningful Mondays for your favorite charity. Sandwiches begin at $10, and small plates start at $7. Poppy Den is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. — Jack Bulavsky
